About the Role:

Manage productivity, quality, and safety of the sewing department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the recruitment, hiring and training of staff to efficiently cut and sew product in target lead time.
  • Identify staffing needs based on annual sales forecast.
  • Manage training of department employees.
  • Work with lead positions to ensure training is identified and completed.
  • Track productivity, utilization and efficiency in the department.
  • Ensure use of safe work practices.
  • Identify and eliminate risks within the department.
  • Manage sewing production schedule.
  • Work with lead positions in establishing and completing sewing production schedule.
  • Manage inventory and employee clocking.
  • Ensure proper completion of job operations.
  • Determine minimum level of supply items to facilitate the efficient completion of orders; maintain levels through timely communication with purchasing.
  • Provide proper feedback on job traveler updates and changes including improvements that can be made.
  • Work with sales and production to ensure timely shipment of product.
  • Research new technology and techniques that apply to the department and/or company.
  • Establish, maintain and improve best practices and quality standards.
  • Work with other Olympus locations to create and maintain best practices across different plants.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee direct staff of 2- 3 leads with indirect responsibility of 18- 25 people
  • Travel requirement: Required as needed, minimal.
  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree; and 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or fellow team members.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to multitask and be a problem solver.

  • Must have good phone skills and interact well with others.
  • Must have basic computing skills.
  • Must be self-motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
