Job Description

Position TIG Welder – Location: Parsons, Kansas. Reports to: Fabrication Foreman. Open positions: 1. Salary: $22–$25 per hour. Essential Functions Perform TIG welding operations using appropriate equipment, tools, and techniques to join metal components accurately and securely, according to blueprints, specifications, and welding codes. Select and set up the welding equipment, including TIG welding machines, gas cylinders, torches, filler rods, and related tools. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine welding requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. Prepare workpieces by cleaning, degreasing, and positioning them for welding to ensure proper fit and alignment. Set welding parameters such as voltage, amperage, and gas flow according to material type, thickness, and desired weld quality. Execute TIG welding on various metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium, while maintaining safety protocols and quality standards. Monitor the welding process, inspecting welds for defects such as cracks, porosity, and distortion, and adjust as needed. Perform post‑welding tasks—grinding, smoothing, polishing—to remove sharp edges and achieve a finished appearance. Conduct regular maintenance and inspection of welding equipment, reporting malfunctions or repair needs to the supervisor. Follow safety guidelines and keep a clean, organized work area for a safe and efficient environment. Collaborate with engineers and fabricators to discuss project requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide input on welding techniques and processes. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 2+ years of professional welding experience. In-depth knowledge of welding principles, techniques, and best practices, with expertise in TIG welding on various metals a plus. Preferred 3+ years of welding experience. Valid welding certification; TIG certification preferred. Skills Requirements Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality welding. Skill in operating and maintaining TIG welding equipment and tools. Ability to assess weld quality and identify and rectify defects. Solid understanding of welding safety procedures and practices. Good communication skills and teamwork ability. Physical stamina and dexterity for extended welding tasks. High level of professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic. Work Environment Manufacturing setting. Requires personal protective equipment: safety glasses with side shields, safety footwear, hearing protection, etc. Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Physical Requirements Lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50 lbs.; occasionally over 50 lbs. with assistance. Frequent standing, up to 100% of the time. Occasional squatting and sitting. Use hands and fingers for holding, carrying, grasping, pinching, pulling, pushing; rotating wrists, hands; manipulating controls, tools, parts. Ability to observe operations and inspect completed parts. Travel Requirements None. Supervisory Requirements None.
