Position Summary / Essential Functions
The Chief Officer is in charge of the maintenance areas controlled by the deck department. He / she is responsible for the ballast, stability and fresh water bunkering as defined in the Water Bunkering, Production, Pools, Jacuzzis and Spa's Handbook for Staff Captains, Chief Officers, Chief Carpenters, Chief Engineer, and Chief Engineers Jr Personnel.
The Chief Officer shall be familiar with the Company's Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and he / she shall carry out his / her duties in accordance with the established policies and directives.
The Chief Officer is responsible for the AMOS System for the deck department and shall keep a close cooperation with the Supply Officer and the Staff Captain. He / she is responsible for the Deck Stores, parts and supplies, Inventory Control and Purchase Requisitions.
In close cooperation with the Staff Captain and at this direction administers and monitors the maintenance program for all areas controlled by the deck, or undertakes the supervision of specific projects assigned.
He / she is responsible for the freshwater (P.W.) supply, consumption control, and chlorination in cooperation with the Staff Chief Engineer.
He / she is responsible for the co-ordination of all off-loading, on-loading and securing of items onboard, mainly on the loading deck.
He / she is responsible for the stability calculations as specified in the Navigation Standards Manual under G200.16 Stability Calculations.
If the Chief Officer is assigned on a bridge watch (specific vessels) he / she shall observe the guidelines for watch keeping.
The Chief Officer shall assist the Safety Officer in the training of the ship's crew, staff and officers as required.
The Chief Officer's responsibility is also to ensure that the weekly / monthly inspections are carried out in compliance with SOLAS requirements.
He / she is responsible for the monitoring of the individual overtime logs for the deck ratings.
He / she is responsible for the annual survey of the ship's inflatable life rafts, release gear and related equipment.
The Chief Officer shall be familiar with the first and second officer's duties and responsibilities.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed.
Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS.
He / she is in charge of the Deck Crew (ratings).
The Chief Officer is a senior officer bearing three (3) stripes, and he / she reports directly to the Staff Captain.
He / she shall work very closely with the hotel department in cleaning and maintenance related matters.
He / she is the liaison between the Bosun (deck crew) and the ship management in all maintenance related matters.
Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum of one year experience as a First Officer (OOW) onboard cruise ships is required.
Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Fidelio is strongly preferred.
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge and experience using Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is required.
Intermediate verbal and writing skills in at least one other language such as German, Spanish, French or Italian is preferred.
The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or Foreign Equivalent is required.
Degree from a recognized maritime educational institution that qualifies them for an Unlimited Masters License is required.
